Frequently Asked Questions
Location: Yes, ok on one hand it seems obvious, we need to know the location of the photos or videos! However, what might not be obvious is the airspace that the flight will be conducted within. Compliance with CASA rules and regulations is of utmost importance to be safe. Being able to fly at your location is one of the first checks to be completed. Location is also needed for mission planning, logistics and scheduling.
Landowner or occupier permission: In most cases you will be able to directly provide this authorisation. However, if you are at a wedding venue or a contractor at an industrial site, permission will need to be sought from an authorised person.
Drones are not permitted to fly any closer than 30m from people not engaged in the operation of the drone. ‘Close-ups’ can be achieved with zooming or cropping, which is perfectly achievable with 4K video and 48Mp photos.
The good news is that the drone can get up close and personal with assets. Most times this is not even necessary as zoom lenses and high resolution photos can identify any issues from a distance. Where space is limited, such as under bridges, the drone can approach close to the asset provided it is safe to do so, for example, low or no wind.
Gimbal View Drone Services will provide everything required to perform the flight(s). Whether it is an inspection or creative promotional work, we will provide trained personnel (pilot and radio operator), equipment and support personnel required for the job.
You may need to unlock or provide keys for access to the area. You may need to provide a safe area for operation to take off and land. The area will need to be safe and free of people in the area (+30m) of the flight zone. The area may need to be inspected on a day prior to the flight.
Lots! More than happy to talk about your specific circumstances. Mainly these are divided into two areas: 1) Inspection, 2) Creative/Promotional
Inspections: Inspections often are in “active sites” where personnel or vehicles are operating. Having a plan (i.e. traffic management, personnel memos) to ensure there are no encroachments on the fight zone is key to a safe and efficient operation.
Creative and Promotional: It is easily forgotten. Schedule the mowing and clean up a day or three before the flight! So we have the perfect sunny day with no wind. Your big crane lift went off without a hitch or your friends turned up with two stretch limos that highlight the luxurious expanse of your wedding venue. The shoot goes well, everyone is happy. OHH NO, we can see the bin overflowing, mess here and there, long uncut grass. Take a minute, have a look around and consider what a drone will see from the air and schedule that monthly task to a few days before the big event.
